In 1960, a group of Whidbey Island business leaders felt the time had come to create an independent community bank undefined one that would serve the unique banking needs of local businesses and residents of Whidbey Island.

Their vision was simple: To build a bank based on strong community values undefined one that would invest its financial capital locally. One that believed its employees are its most valuable asset. Most importantly, this bank would provide an exceptional level of service, simply by treating people for who they are undefined our friends and neighbors. We call this style of banking The Whidbey Way and, in spite of our island roots, it doesn’t end at the Clinton ferry terminal or at Deception Pass.

Experience the Whidbey Way of banking at 30 branches, throughout 6 counties in Northwest Washington.

TAG Luncheon: A+ Washington: A Way Forward for All Students (Friday, June 15, 2012)

A+ WASHINGTON: A WAY FORWARD FOR ALL STUDENTS
Friday, June 15, 2012 | 11:30 AM - 1:15 PM
NorthWood Hall, 3240 Northwest Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225

Join us for a special partner presentation with the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce!

In Washington today our business economy continues to lead the country – especially in the area of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers and employers. Our state ranks 1st in the concentration of STEM jobs, 1st in the creation of software companies and 4th in technology-based corporations. And, the state is expected to continue to expand jobs in the STEM arena by 25 percent in the next six years.

Yet, our education system does not lead the nation. Today, in Washington, 1 of 4 high school students do not graduate. Of those that move on to a two-or four-year university, half will require remediation. With projections that 70 percent of jobs in Washington will require an education beyond high school by 2020 – this increases to 94 percent of jobs in STEM fields – our state must do more to prepare all students for college and work.

This is why a group of parents, families, teachers, principals, community members and advocates, called Excellent Schools Now, created A+ Washington, a comprehensive plan to transform our state’s education system.

A+ Washington builds on many laws, policies and programs that are already helping students succeed here and in communities across the county and in Washington state. A+ Washington offers solutions and big ideas that add up to a bright future- where every student gets what they need to succeed in work, college and life – solutions focused around five areas: quality pre-kindergarten for every child, supporting excellent teachers for all students, preparing all students for work and college, flexibility to transform schools, and accurate measurements and data so schools and teachers can be held accountable for their students' performance.

On June 15, the Excellent Schools Now Coalition will lead a discussion on A+ Washington, share ideas and strategies that will help ensure all students graduate from high school prepared to succeed at careers and college.

For more information on A+ Washington visit www.apluswa.org.
